Architectural Lighting Design for Hamptons & Manhattan Residences

Custom lighting plans, Lutron and Ketra integration, interior fixture specification, and landscape lighting — designed and installed end to end by our certified team.

One Team. Three Divisions.

Lighting design for Hamptons and Manhattan homes — the whole picture, under one roof.

Most lighting companies focus on one piece: fixtures, or controls, or outdoor. HTE brings all three together. Our Hamptons Lighting Design division handles interior fixture specification; Hamptons Landscape Lighting covers your outdoor property; and HTE's integration team ties it all to Lutron Homeworks smart controls. One conversation, one team, one cohesive result.

Why It Matters Here

Lighting design in the Hamptons requires a different level of thinking.

Hamptons homes aren't lit the same way a suburban house is lit. Great rooms with twenty-foot ceilings, walls of glass facing south, primary suites that function as full retreats, outdoor entertaining spaces that need to feel like extensions of the interior — these environments demand a lighting designer who understands both the architecture and the technology that controls it.

HTE's lighting design team has worked across Southampton, East Hampton, Bridgehampton, Water Mill, Sagaponack, and Sag Harbor for over twenty years. We understand how summer light behaves differently than fall light, why south-facing rooms need carefully considered solar shading coordinated with lighting scenes, and why night aiming — adjusting every fixture after dark — is the step that separates a good installation from an exceptional one.

In Manhattan, the scale changes but the standard doesn't. Tight floor plates, building coordination requirements, and clients who split time between both markets expect the same cohesive experience in both homes. HTE designs with continuity in mind — so your East 72nd Street apartment and your Water Mill estate feel like they belong to the same life.

Common Questions

What to know about lighting design.

What does a lighting designer actually do?

A lighting designer creates a comprehensive plan for every light source in your home — balancing task lighting, ambient lighting, and accent lighting to support both function and atmosphere. They specify fixtures, design Lutron control scenes, coordinate with your architect and builder, and oversee the installation through night aiming. The result isn't just a room with lights — it's a room that responds to how you use it.

What is Ketra lighting and why does HTE use it?

Ketra is a Lutron brand that produces tunable LED fixtures — the color temperature and intensity of each fixture can shift throughout the day to support your natural circadian rhythm. Warm, golden light in the evening; cooler, brighter light when you need focus. HTE is a Ketra Certified Showroom, one of very few in the New York area. You can experience it at our Southampton showroom before committing to a specification.

Can you work with my existing Lutron system?

Yes. HTE specializes in expanding and upgrading existing Lutron Homeworks systems. We add new zones, retrofit fixtures, and program new scenes without replacing your existing infrastructure. If your system is more than ten years old, we'll also assess whether a processor upgrade makes sense — often it extends the life of everything connected to it.

Do you design both interior and outdoor lighting?

Yes. HTE operates three lighting divisions under one roof: Hamptons Lighting Design for interior fixture specification, Hamptons Landscape Lighting for exterior design and installation, and Home Technology Experts for smart control integration. Most clients engage all three — a unified design across interior, exterior, and control is far more cohesive than three separate vendors working independently.

How much does a professional lighting design cost in the Hamptons?

Scope varies considerably. A single-room lighting design and installation can run from $8,000–$25,000 depending on fixture quality and control complexity. Whole-home architectural lighting design for a Hamptons estate — encompassing fixture specification, Lutron Homeworks integration, Ketra tunable lighting, and landscape — typically ranges from $75,000 to $300,000+.
