Is my Sonos outdated?
Sonos alternatives and options
Starting from May, anyone running legacy products on their Sonos system will no longer receive any updates for any product. Only customers running a system comprising of currently supported models will get new features and updates.
Sonos has said that the products being discontinued are the original Zone Players (ZP80, ZP90, ZP100 and ZP120), the Connect and Connect:Amp (sold between 2006 and 2015), the Play:5 (Gen 1), CR200 and Bridge.
As we see it you have (3) options:
Do nothing - Realistically your system will continue to function for what could be a year or more. At some point, as Sonos has pointed out, you “may” lose some functionality if API’s change or if services, like Spotify for example, eventually require more memory than legacy hardware is able to keep up with. Just pray your system doesn’t stop working when you have a house full of guests!
Upgrade - HTE (through Sonos) is offering 30% off all new Sonos hardware if you “recycle” your legacy hardware. This is actually a really great deal. If you do plan to update, don’t wait. This offer will likely come to an end at some point in the near future.
Replace - While our team at HTE loves Sonos for certain projects, we feel that Savant’s new Sonos AMP alternative is a really great option! The Savant HST-SIPA1SM-00 is a single zone amp with 125 watts/ch, a single zone of Savant Music (including all relavant music services), a best in class UI and most importantly, it’s the exact same price as a Sonos AMP ($650).
